Understanding Your Government's Financial Statement Under the KMAAG

presented by Loyd Group, LLC

Speaker:  Scot Loyd, CPA, CGFM, CFE, CGMA, CNC

We are excited to bring you the 2025 KMAAG Seminar Series!

This year, we’ll again host combined one-day sessions for all Kansas local governments in Colby, Dodge City, Pittsburg, and Overland Park. In addition, we are introducing specialized KMAAG seminars at the Loyd Group Training Center in Galva, KS, with separate sessions designed specifically for Cities, Counties, and Schools. These targeted events will allow us to focus more deeply on the needs of each entity type, while the combined sessions continue to foster a shared understanding across all governments in Kansas.

Whether you are new to local government or a seasoned professional, these seminars are designed to ensure you stay confident in navigating the Kansas Municipal Audit and Accounting Guide. Even if your financial statements are presented under GAAP, KMAAG requirements still apply, making this training essential for accurate and compliant reporting.

Scot always asks every participant to remember two things:

  1. There are no dumb questions.

  2. You should walk away having learned at least one new thing and he usually learns something himself at each session!

Key Training Topics Include:

• Linking records to your government’s financial statement, including notes on cash, investments, payroll, debt, and KPERS unfunded liability disclosure.
• Real-world fraud stories to help you identify risks and stay proactive in monitoring internal controls.
• Best practices for segregation of duties in smaller governments.
• How to recognize a material misstatement in financial statements and what it means for local government personnel to have Skill, Knowledge, and Experience (SKE) in their role.
• Group exercises designed to help you spot errors in example KMAAG financial statements, notes, and schedules - especially in the specialized city, county, and school seminars in Galva.
• Understanding depository security, pledge security, and protecting your bank deposits.

Each seminar qualifies for 8 hours of CPE credit.

All seminars will begin at 8:30 a.m. and end no later than 4:31 p.m.

Breakfast: light breakfast at each seminar

Lunch: Galva events only - lunch will be included (local BBQ catering)  -   All other locations (Colby, Dodge City, Overland Park, & Pittsburg) will break for lunch; not provided

Snack: light snack during the afternoon break

We hope you all take advantage of the KMAAG Seminars in your area.  No one else in Kansas trains on KMAAG in Kansas!
